About SCHOLARSPLUS®
ScholarsPlus is a digital media literacy program for 5th through 12th graders. Through workshops and clubs in schools, libraries, and community spaces, we help students understand how the digital world is built. We look at how apps and platforms make money, how content gets made and shared, and how to think critically about what shows up on their screens.
Kids today are navigating an online world that is powerful, pervasive, and largely unregulated. Social comparison, misinformation, and constant connectivity all take a real toll, and most kids are figuring it out alone. Parents and educators see it happening but often don't have the tools to respond.
Scholars Plus was built to fill that gap.
Our approach is discussion and activity based. Students aren't lectured at. They debate, question, and create, the goal isn't memorizing it's building habits that last: asking who made this, why they're seeing it, and what it wants from them. That's what it means to become a Mindful Digital Media Navigator®.
Who's behind it
Scholars Plus was founded by Chloe Desmoulins, a parent and educator based in Colorado. Chloe holds an MA in French Literature and taught at the University of Hawaiʻi. She started ScholarsPlus in 2021 after seeing how much of children's lives was moving online, and how little anyone was teaching them to navigate it.

Chloé Desmoulins, Founder & Lead Instructor
As a concerned parent, Chloé founded ScholarsPlus® in response to what she believes is a critical lack of digital media literacy education. With a Master’s degree in French Literature and an experienced educator, she brings a unique perspective to digital media literacy. Chloe published a thesis exploring the boundaries of text and images and how they create meaning together. By understanding how text and images work together in digital media, we can critically evaluate and interpret the meaning-making processes behind its content.

Marcus Howell, Advisor
Marcus is passionate about bringing measurable outcomes to the ScholarsPlus program. Marcus believes Digital Media Literacy education is essential to our children’s mental well being. Marcus graduated from Colorado State University with a Bachelors in Political Science and Communications.

Maggie Lederman, Advisor
Maggie works as a school counselor and has first-hand experience with the negative effects of digital media on children. Cyberbullying and exposure to inappropriate and false content manifest in her daily work. Maggie has a Masters degree in Counseling from Adams State and is an expert advisor on what tools and content can positively support children’s success.

Sidney Clough, Advisor
Sidney is a Media Planner and Buyer who specializes in Digital and Social Media. Sidney is excited to bring her knowledge of data, targeting and privacy to Scholars Plus. Sidney was born and raised in Denver and she graduated from the University of Colorado with a BA in Sociology.
